Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist shared his insights on Dhoni’s recent captaincy decisions and performance during an appearance he said in one of his interview. According to Gilchrist, there may not have been much scope for a tactical turnaround late in the game.

“Strategically, I’m not yeh there was the possibility in which much more could’ve been done but it was not also Going back to Khaleel later in the innings was risky—he had already conceded around 32 runs in his first two overs. Perhaps Kambhoj could have been a better option at that stage. With Noor finishing the way he did, even giving Jadeja another over of spin might have been worth considering. It was a mixed bag overall. Still, they managed to bowl 45 dot balls,” Gilchrist noted.
Looking at the entire scenario above Gilchrist went on to question whether Dhoni who is always know for the sharp and the class cricketing mind might be waning slightly as he approaches the twilight of his illustrious career.
Gilchrist also said ahead that “MS Dhoni is never saw that emotional or even visibly frustrated which we able to see in the current games . But I do wonder whether that same internal energy is still fuelling inside him. Is the mind still as sharp and alert as it always was? Or he is clearly nearing the end of his career now —whether it’s this season or the next. I wouldn’t be too critical of his leadership, though—I believe some subpar bowling let him down,” he added.
Gilchrist also commented on the dismissal , where ball came off a seemingly a easy full toss from Yash Dayal—something he believes the veteran would have easily handled in his class but that too it didn’t happened.
“That moment—missing a full toss like that—says something. In his heyday, he wouldn’t have let that go. He’d have dispatched it without a second thought,” Gilchrist concluded
