Hrishikesh Kanitkar a man who played historical innings and know for that match winning knock has been appointed as Head Coach for India A’s England Tour
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Hrishikesh Kanitkar will serve as the head coach of the India A team for their upcoming tour of England. The announcement came on Friday, May 16, and marks a significant appointment ahead of the high-profile shadow series.
India A, captained by Abhimanyu Easwaran, is scheduled to play three matches during the tour, including an important fixture against the India Senior team. Kanitkar, a former India international and a seasoned domestic cricketer from Maharashtra, will lead the coaching responsibilities.
He will be supported by Subhadeep Ghosh, who joins as the fielding coach, and Troy Cooley, who will handle bowling duties. Ghosh hails from Assam, while Cooley brings a wealth of international coaching experience.
And finally the 18-member Squad of India A is set to depart for England in two separate batches on May 25 and 26. There will be a Four-day first-class game against the England Lions, will be held at Canterbury on May 30.
Following the opener, the team will play its second four-day match in Northampton, starting June 6. Afterward, they will participate in a closed-door practice match against the India Senior side at Beckenham from June 13 to 16. In preparation for this, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan are expected to join the squad before the second fixture.
India Senior Team Selection and England Departure
Meanwhile, the India Senior team for the full-fledged tour of England will be finalized in the last week of May. Initially slated for May 23, the team announcement has been delayed due to the changes in the IPL schedule.
The senior team will fly to England on June 6, giving them about two weeks before the opening Test match at Headingley, which starts on June 20. Contrary to earlier reports, Gautam Gambhir, who was believed to travel earlier, will now accompany the team as per the revised schedule.
