IPL 2025: Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals Match Called Off in Dharamsala Due to Security Concerns and Power Outage
In a dramatic turn of events, the much-anticipated IPL 2025 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was called off on Thursday, May 8, after just 10.1 overs of play at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement confirming that a major technical failure led to a power outage, which caused one of the floodlight towers to malfunction. “BCCI has regrated for the inconvenience for the people whow were in the stadium during that time.
However, reports suggest a deeper cause behind the disruption. According to PTI, the power cut was prompted by security protocols following air raid alerts in the region, amid rising tensions along the India-Pakistan border. This led to a temporary blackout in the hill town, impacting the game directly.
There is also the Report that as a precautionary measure, players, support staff, and spectators were evacuated from the stadium. Both teams were seen leaving the venue shortly after the lights went out, with families of the players being escorted to safety first.
With the match abandoned, Punjab and Delhi were awarded one point each, a significant outcome as both teams are in tight contention for a playoff berth. Delhi Capitals, is on third point and on 16 points from 12 games, and Punjab Kings is on 5th hold the fifth spot with 14 points so both the team where looking for the much-required win but the tension at the border has stopped the play.
In the stadium two or more than two light and towers which were switched off and crowd was also immediately asked to leave the stadium.
