KKR Team Franchise has raises there voice to BCCI for change in venue in IPL .
According to reports, KKR has formally communicated its concerns to the board, questioning the timing and fairness of the decision.
BCCI has announced a revised rule on Tuesday, the allowing an additional 120 minutes of extra time for the remaining league matches of IPL 2025. This provision, typically reserved for playoff fixtures, was introduced midway through the season. The move comes in response to unexpected scheduling delays caused by the clash in between India-Pakistan conflict and the onset of monsoon rains across several Indian cities.
But Why KKR Is Upset
The timing of this decision which has not gone down well with KKR yes that is right KKR is already been knocked out of the playoff race. The team believes the rule change came too late to make a difference in their campaign. Specifically, they pointed to their rain-abandoned match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 17 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium—a game that could have been completed had the new rule been in place.
Had those additional two hours of extra time been available then, there might have been enough time for a minimum five-over contest. A win in that match could have kept KKR’s playoff hopes alive.
KKR CEO Demands Consistency
Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR, expressed his dissatisfaction in an email addressed to IPL COO Hemang Amin. He emphasized the importance of consistency and transparency in implementing such significant changes.
“While we understand the need for flexibility in exceptional situations, the lack of consistency in how rules are applied is concerning,” Mysore wrote. “On May 17, weather forecasts clearly warned of heavy rain in Bengaluru. Not only was our game completely washed out, but with the current revised rule in effect, even a short-format game could have been feasible.”
Other Franchises Share the Sentiment
It appears KKR isn’t alone in their discontent. According to a Cricbuzz report, other franchises have also raised concerns, warning that such rule modifications during a tournament could set a dangerous precedent.
Games affected by rain can now begin as late as 9:30 PM as per the new rules without any loss of overs. Previously, matches had to start by 8:30 PM to avoid overs being cut and the most important is that policy which are updated allows even a five-over match to begin.
As the IPL continues to grow in size and influence, franchises are calling for greater consistency and foresight in rule-making—especially when those rules can significantly impact the outcomes of high-stakes matches.
